- Be able to believe themselves
- Think that they deserve the best in life
- Think they are worthy
- Respect themselves and others
- Are successful and try to be the best they can be
- Be able to change or ‘make things happen’
FEELINGS
- Like themselves and are able to laugh at themselves
- Be relaxed and confident (without appearing to be overbearing)
- Be able to take criticism on board
- Be able to forgive mistakes made by self and others
- Have a balanced and positive approach to life
- Feel motivated with a clear sense of direction
- Feel secure and not overly worried about what others think
BEHAVIOUR
- Be decisive and are able to confidently view options
- Exude a sense of well-being
- Communicate in an open way
- Not be overly critical of themselves or others
- Be resourceful and self reliant but able to ask for help if required
- Be able to honour their achievements and successes
- Be able to take risks
- Be able to say ‘no’
- Be able to show their feelings and emotions openly
Positive Effects:
People with healthy self esteem tend to be motivated and positive. They feel able to take risks and effectively change aspects of their life and behaviour.
