RELAXATION
Being able to relax creates an ideal state for meditation and also relieves tension and stress from the body. This can be achieved via a variety of techniques such as deep breathing exercises, tightening and releasing parts of the body, focusing the mind on a particular vision. Soothing music can also play a part in some relaxation exercises.
VISUALISATION
Visualisation is a method where imagery is used as a focus for the mind. This helps the mind to relax and results in a feeling of peace and tranquillity. A picture or symbol can be used as a starting point of the visual focus of attention, perhaps a beach you have visited or a favourite place.
AFFIRMATIONS
Affirmations are a simple and effective way to help a person to regain power. This is in the form of a message, with significant wording which is repeated in order to reprogram the mind in a positive way. This will guide the heart and mind towards developing a certain quality or dealing with a particular issue. This is a powerful tool which can change destructive behaviours such as self-loathing or self-doubt into self- value and self confidence.
SPIRITUAL HEALING
Spiritual healing is the channelling of ‘healing’ energies to relax and re-energise. A healer will direct energy, usually through the hands to the recipient and this will be aimed at dealing with stress at whatever level within the body and also at releasing the body’s recuperative abilities. Healing can be achieved at close quarters or at a distance. Sensations such as pins and needles, coolness, heat can indicate that the energies are working on the body and mind. Healing is a natural therapy which can be used for illness, injury, stress, depression and many other things. It can be used alone or in conjunction with other complimentary therapies.
COUNSELLING
Counselling is a form of therapy which involves discussion and review of issues or concerns. Some client’s find that they feel more comfortable talking about problems in their lives or issues that they would like to address. The client is listened to attentively and guided throughout the session to look at the root of an issue or any other relevant pointers. Counselling is a very effective part of healing and self development and as much or as little of this can be used, depending on personal preference.
POSTURE WORK
The body reflects how you feel and will take on different aspects of the mind and emotions. For example, for someone suffering with depression, posture can become more negative as the mind is focused on the more pessimistic aspects of life. Posture work is about working with the bodies energies to retrain negative thought processes into positive ones.
EXERCISE
Exercise also focuses on the use of the body and it’s energy – having a sense of movement and air and how movement and stretching can have a positive effect on the mind and body overall.
COLOUR THERAPY
Colour therapy relates to the important role that colour plays in our lives. The colours of the rainbow are used which relate to the different ‘Chakra’s within our bodies. The colour we choose to wear on a particular way is influenced by our state of mind and will also have an impact on our mood and emotions. This affects the colours we use to decorate our houses, the clothes we wear and the conscious use of colour can bring balance to our energy fields and general well-being.
